07. Know Equilibrium
DECODING DUALITY THROUGH AI-DRIVEN ART
- November 22, 2024 by ArtiAI MAGAZINE
Zahier Abrahams, known as Know Equilibrium, channels his multidisciplinary talents from Cape Town to the Netherlands into a bold exploration of duality in the digital age. With a philosophy rooted in John Nash’s game theory, Zahier’s artistic alter ego seeks balance in everything— from light and shadow to human and machine. His AI-powered creations are not just visual works, but immersive narratives that decode the complexities of existence and equilibrium.
Through a seamless fusion of geometry, symbolism, and algorithmic precision, Know Equilibrium challenges the boundaries of traditional art forms. Zahier’s journey, from literature and acting to AI-driven motion design, reflects a relentless curiosity to redefine creativity. His work doesn’t just coexist with AI; it transforms it into a tool for introspection, offering an intricate dialogue between the human experience and technological innovation.
WHAT ARE YOUR SOURCES OF INSPIRATION? WHEN CREATING WITH AI, HOW DOES YOUR CREATIVE PROCESS UNFOLD?
I’d probably choose my tribute to “The Alchemist”. That work holds a lot of personal significance for me. I put a great deal of effort into it, and every thing in the piece was chosen with intention— from the look to the textures to the colors. There are a lot of symbols embedded within it representing different aspects of myself and my ex periences. It’s a piece of me encoded in a visual form, and I’m proud of what it represents.
WHAT ARE YOUR SOURCES OF INSPIRATION? WHEN CREATING WITH AI, HOW DOES YOUR CREATIVE PROCESS UNFOLD?
AI has been instrumental in helping me do things that were previously impossible. I’m not trying to replicate what traditional artists can do; instead, I aim to create work that only AI can help me achieve. This focus on pushing the boundaries of 100 what’s possible with AI is exciting for me. While I sympathize with artists who feel threatened by AI, my personal goal has never been about prof iting or taking work away from others. It’s about using AI to explore new frontiers in creativity. AI also helps streamline my workflow. It allows me to quickly generate ideas and see if they work before fully committing to a concept. That said, AI doesn’t always form part of my process—sometimes I create without it—but for many of my AI experiments, especially on the “know_equilibrium” page, it’s a core tool.
WHAT ADVICE OR ENCOURAGEMENT WOULD YOU GIVE TO THOSE INTERESTED IN PURSUING AI ART?
Be authentic. Tell the truth, even if it’s just your truth at that moment. You don’t need to hold onto it forever—truth is fluid, and what you feel today may not be what you feel tomorrow. Creating art, whether with AI or by other means, is therapeu tic. Don’t worry about what others expect; focus on expressing yourself honestly.
